Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced that 92 per cent of Grade 10 learners have successfully reported to senior secondary schools across the country, as the government intensifies efforts to achieve full transition by Monday.

Speaking during an interdenominational service at Kericho County, Kindiki said the remaining learners must be accounted for within the next 24 hours, following firm instructions from President William Ruto.

“National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) together with education officers are under firm instructions to ensure 100 per cent transition to Senior Secondary for all Grade 10 learners,” Kindiki stated. “So far, 92 per cent of the learners have been admitted to various schools and the remaining 8 per cent are expected in schools beginning tomorrow.”

Kindiki underscored the government’s heavy investment in education infrastructure, noting that 23,000 classrooms and 1,600 laboratories have been built nationwide.

He added that the recruitment and deployment of 100,000 teachers was part of the broader plan to guarantee quality and inclusive education for every child.

“To ensure that every Kenyan child has access to quality, inclusive and relevant education, the Government has invested billions of shillings into the construction of classrooms and laboratories as well as recruitment of teachers,” Kindiki said.

Recently, the government directed school principals to admit students even if they lacked uniforms or had not cleared fees. Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba clarified that learners should be allowed to join classes in their junior school uniforms to avoid unnecessary delays.

President William Ruto had earlier directed school principals to admit all Grade 10 learners wearing their Junior Secondary uniforms, as part of measures to guarantee the full transition of Grade 9 students into senior schools.
