Kilifi Police launch crackdown on youth terrorizing students

Mariakani Assistant Chief Nelson Kenga Kalume.

Police officers in Mariakani, Kilifi County are currently cracking down on youth who abuse drugs and terrorize students on their way home from school after night studies.

Speaking to Education News in his Mariakani town office recently, Mariakani Assistant Chief Nelson Kenga Kalume said that officers from Mariakani Police Station have already started evening and night patrols around Misufini, Mariakani, Mwareni and Shangia Primary Schools; and Mariakani Secondary to arrest and charge the culprits.

Kalume said reports indicated that some learners had been waylaid and robbed of their materials and personal effects by the criminals armed with clubs, knives and pangas.

He urged the youth in question to instead engage themselves in meaningful activities that will help them generate income to lead a better life.

The Assistant Chief warned drug barons peddling narcotics to youth and school children that their days are numbered and they will face the law in due time.

He decried the high dropout rate among school girls to early marriages and early pregnancies and warned that those found to impregnate the girls will be arrested and charged.

Kalume further urged parents to closely monitor their daughters’ movements to ensure they maintain their morals.
