Parents in Mwahera Location in Ganze Sub County in Kilifi County have been urged to monitor closely the movements of their school children during this August long school holiday.

Speaking to Education News in his office at Kang’amboni village recently, Mwahera Location Senior Chief, Alfred Safari Deri, said that the move would enable parents to know exactly the whereabouts of their children especially during this particular August school holiday.

He, however asked parents to engage their school children into some domestic work at home, instead of leaving them to loiter in the streets of urban centres in the county.

The administration official further urged parents in the area to ensure that their children continue to maintain a high standard of discipline, noting that discipline is the only key factor to success in their final national examinations.

At the same time, he further decried the high dropout rate among school girls in the area.

He revealed that they have conducted a crackdown recently and rescued ten school girls who had dropped out of school and ordered them back to school to continue with their education.

He, attributed the high dropout rate among school girls in the area to early pregnancies and early marriages respectively.

He, asked education stakeholders in the area to ensure that people believed to have impregnated school girls are immediately arrested and prosecuted.

“The country’s rapid development actually needs educated people who will be charged with the responsibility of designing, planning and implementing community development projects”, he noted.

He also asked education stakeholders to cooperate fully by ensuring that they provide the essential learning facilities in schools to enhance effective teaching and learning.
