Parents in Ganze sub-county, Kilifi County have been advised to enroll their children who completed Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) to Vocational and Training Centres to be imparted with basic technical skills.
Speaking to Education News in his office recently, Mwahera locational Senior Chief, Alfred Safari Deri lamented that many children who completed Secondary education some years back in the sub county have not been enrolled to Vocational and Training Centres by their parents for no apparent reason at all.
He added that most children who completed KCSE in the area engage themselves in excessive drinking of alcohol and drug abuse instead of going for basic technical skills to enable them secure employment in future.
“Some of the children loiter in the streets of urban centres in the county aimlessly instead of engaging themselves in viable projects aimed at generating them some income to sustain their lives,” he said
Deri blamed parents for their failure to enrol their children to TVETs, arguing that the trend has affected government’s efforts in offering quality technical education to children in the country.
“You are duty bound in taking education of your children seriously, by taking them to vocational centers to acquire skills good for their future,” Deri told parents.

He called on education stakeholders in the area to ensure that children who completed their form four courses are enrolled to Vocational and Training Centres to secure basic technical skills for their future benefits.
“Technical Training Institutions play an important role in the country. It prepares the youth for self- employment in future ad lessen the burden of unemployment.” Deri said
In a related development, the Provincial Administration Official asked parents in the area to monitor closely the movements of their school children especially their daughters during this long school holiday to know exactly their whereabouts.
Deri, further warned them against allowing their school going daughters to attend night Disco Matanga, adding that this is among the areas where they get early pregnancy.
