Mambrui secondary school in Magarini Sub County, Kilifi County erupted into celebrations after a former bright needy student got a Commonwealth scholarship to pursue his master’s program in the United Kingdom.
Charles Baya from Mjanaheri village is among over 100 bright needy students who were sponsored by the school up to university level
Due to his hard work, he managed to get a first class honors that earned him the full scholarship to UK.
Baya accompanied by fellow alumni who excelled after the school sponsorship joined current students, teachers and board members together with the founder of the school, a Dutch national to celebrate the milestone and also inspire others that education has no boundary.
The ceremony was graced by Malindi MP Amina Mnyazi who urged other students to take education seriously regardless of their financial ability, saying that there are many opportunities globally.
Mnyazi said that Baya’s achievement was a clear proof that education knows no boundary regardless of one’s financial status.

“These students are very hard working and we thank the school management for creating a conducive environment for learning. For this student heading to the UK was very hardworking, he also looked for more chances by applying for international scholarships. This is an inspiration to others that hard work pays,” she said.
Baya on his part thanked the school for the overwhelming support, promising to work hard be a good ambassador of the whole County.
To him, the celebration was meant to inspire others to work hard so that they can succeed like him.
His colleagues, some of whom are now working after completing university, also said that they were happy for his achievement and thanked the Mambrui secondary school fraternity for sponsoring their education.
Halima Omar, the Principal of Mambrui secondary school said that she is happy that their effort of sponsoring needy students was bearing fruits.

She added that Baya would be travelling to the UK on September 26 to begin his Master’s program, prompting the school to organize the ceremony to honour him for the achievement.
“This is a happy day for us and we are celebrating the success of one of our sponsored students. We also thank Malindi MP Amina Mnyazi for helping us out,” she said.
Suleiman Salim who is the Mambrui Secondary school Board Chairman said that Baya’s achievement was an indication that anyone regardless of their background could go to greater heights if they worked hard in school.
He said that the institution normally offers scholarships to needy bright students and most of them excel in their studies which is so motivating to the entire school fraternity and the community at large.
“Most students who school here, come from very needy families and we strive to sponsor them with a lot of bursaries, and we can see the fruits. More than 100 have landed international scholarships to further their education,” he said.
