Kilifi intern teachers to hold press briefing over delayed confirmation by TSC

Intern teachers in Kilifi County are to address the media this morning over delays in their confirmation by the TSC.

Intern teachers in Kilifi County are set to hold a major press briefing on Wednesday to address concerns surrounding their confirmation by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

The meeting, scheduled to take place at Mazingira Gardens in Kilifi, will bring together hundreds of junior secondary and primary school intern teachers from across the county.

Media houses are expected to arrive from 8:00 a.m., while the main session will begin at 10:00 a.m.

According to the organisers, the teachers intend to use the briefing to express their frustrations over delayed confirmation and uncertainty surrounding their employment terms.

They are also expected to issue a joint statement highlighting the challenges faced by intern teachers, including low pay, lack of job security, and inconsistent communication from the employer.

“We are calling on all Kilifi County intern teachers to turn up in large numbers and stand together in unity and solidarity,” read part of a statement issued Tuesday evening. “This is our time to make our voices heard loud and clear.”

The planned press conference comes amid growing nationwide pressure from intern teachers seeking permanent and pensionable employment.

Similar gatherings have been held in other counties in recent days, with teachers demanding that the TSC honour its promise to absorb them into the mainstream workforce.

The TSC has, in recent weeks, faced mounting calls from unions and teacher representatives to expedite the confirmation process, arguing that interns have served diligently under tough conditions since their deployment.

Tomorrow’s event in Kilifi is expected to provide a unified platform for local teachers to air their grievances and push for a clear roadmap for their future within the teaching service.
