KICD dismisses claims of teachers inability to implement CBC

KICD CEO Prof Charles Ong'ondo speaking in the past event.

The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) has denied claims that teachers are struggling with the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

Mildred Kataka, a Senior Principal Curriculum Development Officer, spoke on a vernacular radio station.

She assured listeners that teachers have received thorough training to implement CBC effectively.

“Our educators are well-equipped for this task,” she said.

Kataka encouraged students and parents to embrace the new system.

She noted that CBC is more practical and skills-focused than the old 8-4-4 system.

“CBC emphasizes hands-on learning and prepares students for real-world challenges,” she added.

Her comments addressed concerns about teacher readiness and resources.

Still, KICD insists that the transition is going smoothly and is essential for a more skill-driven education in Kenya.
