Kibabii University has imposed a strict night curfew following violent clashes between rival student factions amid heightened tensions during the institution’s ongoing electoral period.
In an internal memo signed by Dr B. M. Nasongo, the university’s In-Charge of Student Affairs, students must remain indoors from 8pm to 6am.
The directive, effective March 25 to March 28, 2025, aims to restore order and safeguard students from further unrest.
“This directive is in effect from tonight, March 25, 2025, through March 28, 2025. During these restricted hours, intensive police patrols will be conducted, and anyone found loitering will be arrested,” the memo reads.

The university administration issued the directive following reports of skirmishes between opposing student groups, raising concerns over campus security.
The tensions stem from the ongoing student elections, which have seen heightened competition among various camps.
The memo has been circulated to key university officials, including the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellors, and the institution’s security personnel.
Security agencies are expected to remain on high alert to prevent further disruption. Meanwhile, students have been urged to comply with the curfew as the university works toward de-escalating the situation.
