Kibabii University is set to establish a campus in a 30 acre parcel of land in Kopsiro in Mt. Elgon.

The university’s top management, staff and residents of Mt Elgon constituency planted 1,000 tree seedlings in the parcel of land.

The land, donated by the community, is earmarked for the extension of the university’s learning activities in various flagship programmes.

The university’s vice chancellor Prof Isaac Ipara Odeo thanked the local community for donating the piece of land and for creating a favourable and consultative environment fit for the development of the education sector.

‘We promise to do greater things once we set up the university in this place. Henceforth, young people will have access to education at their doorsteps and those already qualified will be given opportunities to work with us,’ he said.

Prof Ipara joined Bungoma county governor Wycliffe Wafula Wangamati and the ambassador to South Korea Yeonghan Choi for the commissioning of the second phase of the KOICA Kibabii complex water supply project in Mt Elgon.

Governor Wangamati revealed that the project will see the construction of 86.3 km water supply pipeline, the erection of water treatment plant of 6000 cubic metres per day, 5 service tanks and 25 water collection kiosks across Mt Elgon.

He added that the project is also aimed at improving the overall state of sanitation and hygiene by increasing water supply and access and reducing the walking distance to water collection points in Bungoma.

The event was graced by Defence Cabinet Secretary Hon Eugene Wamalwa.
