Kiambu youth have been fully sponsored by Kiambu Township NG-CDF to pursue short courses in TVET, the area MP Machua Waithaka saying the aim is to inculcate skills that it will help them join formal employment.
‘Many of our youth, after finishing secondary schools, have no chance of enrolling into tertiary learning due to either lack of school fees or other challenges. I thought of how I can help them to get some skills which will help them either get formal jobs or self-employ themselves,” Machua said.

He said thousands of applications were received when the sponsorship was advertised, which meant that many young people are at home unable to pay for courses that they wish to pursue.
700 beneficiaries are in the first lot pursuing Plumbing, masonry, cosmetology, catering, tiling, electrical engineering, driving and others under the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA).

“After the courses, they will be given internships in various institutions. My leadership is determined to continue empowering our young people,” he said.
Many of the young men and women who talked to Education News thanked their MP for the gesture, saying they were stuck at home for lack of finances to enroll in TVET.
