Public schools in the Kiambu National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) area are set to benefit from a significant initiative aimed at improving learning environments and promoting sustainability. The NG-CDF has begun installing solar power systems in schools, a move expected to reduce electricity costs and ensure a drastically uninterrupted power supply.

Kiambu Member of Parliament, Machua Waithaka, highlighted the benefits during a recent handover ceremony for completed projects at Tinganga Primary School and HGM Secondary School. These projects included new solar lighting systems, reinforced perimeter fencing, and modern school gates.

“We are embracing green energy to cut down on electricity bills,” stated MP Waithaka. “Schools currently accumulate bills of over KSh 25,000 monthly. With solar power, they will have lights that are constantly on, unaffected by outages, and will save over KSh 300,000 per year. This money can then be channelled into other vital school needs.”

The MP added that the solar systems will extend to all schools, including nearby churches.

Beyond energy solutions, the NG-CDF has also focused on enhancing school security and aesthetics. MP Waithaka emphasised the long-overdue need for robust perimeter walls and modern gates.

“For too long, our schools lacked proper perimeter walls and gates to secure them,” he explained. “We’ve embarked on a mission to bring dignity and order to our schools. Now, with modern gates and concrete perimeter walls, we can ensure our children’s safety within school grounds.”

The commitment to improving school infrastructure doesn’t stop there. MP Waithaka affirmed that all schools in the constituency will receive new roofing, tiled floors in classrooms, and cabro paving within school compounds by December of this year.

“We are dedicated to providing our students and pupils with an excellent learning environment,” he said. “We want our children to feel enthusiastic about being in school. By December, schools will feature cabro in their compounds, tiles in classrooms, and sturdy new roofing.”

These projects, fully funded by the Kiambu NG-CDF and implemented by MobileMART Systems, represent a significant investment in the future of education in the region, promising hope, safety, and sustainability for learners.

In addition to infrastructure development, MP Waithaka also announced a KSh 300,000 injection into the Irene Mbugua Bursary Fund. This fund will complement the main NG-CDF bursary kitty, aiming to reach more needy students in the constituency.

“The Irene Mbugua bursary kitty, which we’ve supported with KSh 300,000, will help our bright, needy students,” he stated. “The late Irene was a staunch supporter of my work, and I’ve vowed to continue her noble gesture of ensuring our children receive an education.”

The ceremony was graced by Father Dominic, in charge of Ting’ang’a Catholic Parish, who led prayers and blessed the projects, emphasizing the importance of faith in development. Tinganga MCA Mwaura Napoleon was also in attendance.
