Key highlights on the new KCSE grading structure announced

The Ministry of Education has announced a raft of changes in the grading of KCSE students which starts this year.

Top officials from Jogoo House and the field are currently having a briefing at the New Mtihani House in South C.

These are the key highlights brought forth so far;

■ Only 2 mandatory subjects will be graded: Maths and one language (Kiswahili/English/Kenya Sign Language (KSL))

■ Any 5 best performed from Humanities, Sciences and Technical subjects

■ Previously 5 mandatory subjects were graded (Math, English, Kisw, and 2 sciences) plus two any best performed from either Humanities or Technical subjects

■ New grading system effective this year for the 2023 KCSE cohort

■ CS says the new grading structure will improve the transition to University and TVET institutions

■ Examination materials are to be collected twice daily (not once as before) from the examination centres to avoid exposure to afternoon papers.
