Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) outgoing national vice treasurer and former Makueni County KESSHA chairman Julius Mutwii has called upon all leaders to emulate the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s leadership and character.
Mutwii, speaking at Emali town to Education Digital, expressed deep sadness over Raila’s untimely demise and mourned him as someone who always prioritised the country’s interests, despite vying several times and failing to secure the presidency.
Raila will be remembered as the one who fought for the second liberation of the nation, adding that he was very instrumental in bringing the single party to an end and starting the era of multi-party.
“He even went to the extent of being imprisoned for the sake of this nation. His death has caught many of us off guard. He is a man who has made significant contributions to this country as a leader in expanding democratic space. May his soul rest in peace,” Mutwii said.
He noted that Kenyans should remember that the freedom of speech enjoyed in the country, among other rights, resulted from Raila fighting tirelessly and not giving up, as he put Kenya first before himself.

Mutwii added that the country has witnessed Raila vying and losing but always considers it prudent to support the incumbent for the nation’s sake, reminding leaders that the government is bigger than any individual.
“He will be remembered as a fearless statesman and leader who earned himself an integrity by being a focused opposition leader all the time. Raila had a million followers, and he ensured that his party had a national outlook,” Mutwii added.
The whole world has lost an outstanding leader, and Mutwii extended his sympathy to Raila’s wife, family, and the world at large.
