Kessha Chair says no school money reversed

By Staff Reporter

As stated by the Ministry of Education, the government through the Ministry released 11.2 billion shillings last week to enhance primary and subsidized secondary education programs.

The National Education and Management Information System (Nemis) updated on Thursday 6th that Sh3,725 per student and Sh1 per student had been released into operations and tuition accounts respectively.

However, the information was later pulled down escalating a series of debates among the school heads.

Speaking to Education News, Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (Kessha) Chairman Mr.  Kahi Indimuli said that no money had been disbursed as reported earlier by the local dailies.

Shedding light on the incident that has given school heads in the country sleepless nights, Indimuli said that the update was just an error or misinformation in Nemis.

“Nemis wrongly uploaded data prematurely since the Ministry was not done with the process of disbursement,” said Indimuli.

According to Indimuli, the PS for Basic Education had not signed the disbursement hence calling it reversal as stated in the local dailies is not right.

However, the Kessha Chair urged school heads to keep calm as the government rectifies the error.

“The money will be credited to various school accounts late on Friday this week,” Mr. Indimuli affirmed.

As usual, the released funds show in the Nemis system before reflecting on the various school’s bank accounts.

Elsewhere, a secondary school Principal seeking anonymity said that they are receiving endless calls from the suppliers who are eager for their pay.
