KESSHA assures parents of children’s safety in school amid strike by teachers

KESSHA chairman speaks on opening of schools for third term, assuring parents of their children's safety.

Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) has addressed the reopening of schools for the third term amid strikes due to ongoing labour disputes between teacher unions and Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

In a press statement dated August 25, signed by KESSHA Chairman Willie Kuria, parents are advised to prepare students for the reopening of schools for the third term. KESSHA also reassures parents and students that the welfare and well-being of learners will be protected while they are in educational institutions.

“With regard to the looming teachers strike occasioned by labour dispute between teachers’ unions and the TSC, KESSHA in collaboration with the ministry of education and the TSC would wish to assure all the parents and the learners countrywide that the learners’ welfare and well-being would be safeguarded while in the institutions of learning. Subsequently, parents are advised to prepare learners for third term school reopening starting 26th August 2024,” reads the statement.

The Kenya National Union of Teachers has called off their strike, which was planned for today. However, the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) National Governing Council (NGC) confirmed that their strike would proceed, and they made that pledge good as teachers in different parts of the country staged demonstrations in their nearby towns.
