Keroka TTI now shut after students demand removal of principal

Keroka Technical Institute has now been closed indefinitely consequent to their protests demanding a change of administration.

Kerora Technical Institute (KETTI) has been closed indefinitely after students went on the rampage demanding the removal of the principal yesterday.

The institution, based in Ichuni Ward, Nyaribari Masaba, Kisii County, was closed by the principal after they protested his alleged poor management of the institution.

The learners accused the administration of laxity, watching tutors boycott classes for months because they weren’t being paid for their services.

They said this was tantamount to sabotaging their studies as most of them have been in the institution far too long.

They demanded that the concerned authorities do a re-shuffle of the administration as the current one was messing up their lives, being good at only increasing fees arbitrarily from time to time with little to no explanation.

One Muangu, a Mechanical Engineering student, lamented that despite her course demanding technical work, they haven’t done any practical sessions since she set foot in the institution and paying the requisite fees.

“I haven’t done any practical work despite paying fees as demanded by the institution. My course demands that we do practical work but we are yet to do one. The management of the school has been here far too long; it is time they are changed,” she said.

The protest saw detectives from Ramasha Police Post disperse the rowdy students with teargas, who had vowed that their demands must be met before resuming classes.

At the time of this publication, the administration had not given information on the alleged skipping of classes by tutors for months as a result of lack of payments.
