In the quiet classrooms of Kapkugerwet Ward, Ainamoi Sub-county, Kericho County, a wave of hope is sweeping through as Issack Matker, a nominated MCA, turns compassion into action through a heartfelt food distribution initiative for candidates preparing for their KPSEA and KJSEA examinations.

What began as a simple idea to ensure no child faces exams hungry has grown into a powerful expression of community care and shared responsibility.

At Kimugu Primary School, where the programme was launched, smiles and gratitude filled the air as learners and teachers received rice, cooking oil, salt, soft drinks, and tokens of appreciation for educators.

Matker, known for his hands-on leadership style, described the initiative as a call to restore dignity and confidence among learners.

“These children represent our collective future. When we feed their bodies, we nourish their dreams,” he said, encouraging residents to stand behind education as the greatest equalizer.

The initiative later extended to Township, St. Patrick’s, Chemugusu, Keongo, and Sumeiyon Primary Schools, where each visit carried the same message, success is a shared journey.

The excitement was visible; children sang songs of gratitude, teachers spoke of renewed motivation, and parents expressed relief as the burden of exam preparation lightened.

At Chemugusu Primary, emotions ran high as one teacher remarked, “We often focus on exam results and forget the human side of learning. Today, our children feel seen and cared for.”

The words captured the very essence of the initiative,a reminder that true leadership is not just about policy but presence.

Beyond food, the programme symbolizes encouragement and belief in the potential of every learner. It also acknowledges the teachers who guide them tirelessly, often under challenging circumstances.

“When we come together as a community to support education, we build a foundation stronger than any structure, we build people,” he said.

The initiative has since drawn praise across Kericho, hailed as a model of compassionate leadership that bridges social gaps and uplifts the spirit of togetherness.

Through small acts of kindness, Issack Matker is not only feeding children, he is feeding hope.
