Kericho Kuppet elects first female executive secretary in the country

KUPPET Kericho branch become a trailblazer in the country after electing a woman as its Executive Secretary.

The elections also witnessed the bundling out of all office holders starting from the executive secretary to secretary gender while 70 per cent of the 10 positions were won by women candidates.

Madam Mary Rotich, the immediate former Chairperson of the branch, turned tables on a strong field of men that included the incumbent Mr. Julius Mibei and Kericho TTC tutor, Mr. John Korir.

In the hotly contested elections which was dubbed, “Kinyanganyiro 2021,”  Mrs Rotich won the executive secretary post after garnering  1,148 votes followed by Mr Korir who managed 338 votes while the incumbent trailed with 294 votes. Mrs Rotich is a teacher at Keongo Secondary School in Ainamoi, Kericho County.

Some of the issues that influenced the elections included  the thorny issue of promotions where most teachers have stagnated in Job Group K for Diploma teachers and L and M for graduate teachers. Others include the medical scheme, welfare matters, delocalization policy and CBA challenges.
