The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Kericho Executive Secretary Ann Cheruiyot has intensified campaigns for the re-election of her Bomet counterpart, Desmond Langat, urging teachers in the region to grant him another term in office.
Speaking in Konoin Sub-county, Bomet County, Cheruiyot said she has worked closely with Langat since his election during a by-election and believes continuity in leadership is key to advancing teachers’ welfare.
Cheruiyot, who was recently re-elected to lead the Kericho branch, described her working relationship with Langat as productive and beneficial to teachers in both counties.
She noted that strong collaboration between neighboring branches has strengthened advocacy efforts and improved service delivery to union members.
“We have worked closely with him, and the good relations we have built should continue. Teachers need a leader who works, not one who engages in empty rhetoric,” she said.
Cheruiyot revealed that she personally supported Langat when he assumed office, offering him orientation on handling teachers’ matters and union operations, adding that their partnership has ensured prompt responses to members’ concerns.

“If he does not address an issue immediately, I step in as a neighbour to ensure it is handled. That cooperation has helped us serve teachers better,” she said.
She urged Bomet teachers to respect her appeal by voting Langat back into office, arguing that he has achieved significant progress during his tenure.
“We have done a lot together and he deserves another term. Please respect my request by voting him back,” she appealed.
Cheruiyot further announced that she would camp in Bomet beginning this week to spearhead door-to-door campaigns in support of the incumbent and his team.
Drawing parallels with her own recent victory, she said her team overwhelmingly defeated their opponents in Kericho and expressed confidence that Langat’s camp would replicate the feat.
“I was re-elected with my team after sweeping away the opposition. Those not in Team Desmond Langat risk being swept aside as well,” she warned.
The KNUT branch elections in Bomet are expected to be hotly contested as campaigns now gain momentum.
