Hundreds of Junior Secondary School teachers (JSS), led by the Kericho branch KUPPET Executive Secretary Mary Rotich, have peacefully demonstrated, demanding permanent and pensionable employment.
Expressing their frustration after two years of challenging circumstances, the teachers urged the government to promptly consider their request and resist contract renewals promised for the next year.
Rotich emphasized the disparity in qualifications between JSS and Primary School head teachers, advocating for an urgent transfer of JSS from Primary to Secondary Schools.
The teachers argued that being under Primary School heads was irregular, citing conflicts and emphasizing the need for rectification.

They questioned the placement of CBC Laboratories in Secondary Schools when the intended beneficiaries, the students, were in Primary Schools lacking the necessary facilities.
Rotich, accompanied by KUPPET officials, called for the confirmation of intern teachers, opposing the irregularity of contract renewals.
Addressing concerns about heavy workloads, the teachers highlighted the challenge of teaching subjects for which they were not trained.
“There will be no more deductions; let them try one more, and they will see who we are,” she said.
