The Kericho County Government has intensified efforts to improve public learning and literacy infrastructure with the successful renovation and modernization of the Kericho Library, a major milestone under Governor Dr. Eric Mutai’s administration.
Governor Mutai announced that the transformation of the facility is part of a broader county plan aimed at revitalizing educational centres and promoting a culture of reading and digital literacy among residents.
“When I assumed office, I inherited a dilapidated Kericho Library from the Kenya National Library Services, we launched a comprehensive programme to renovate and equip it with modern amenities,” said Dr. Mutai.
The governor noted that the revamped library has been fitted with state-of-the-art facilities and stocked with curriculum-aligned books that support the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). It now caters to learners across all educational levels, providing a conducive environment for research, innovation, and personal development.
“The library is now open to all learners across all levels, and we encourage parents and the general public to make full use of this revitalized facility,” Mutai said.
The children’s section has been designed to be interactive and learner-friendly, integrating study and play areas to boost creativity and concentration.

The adult section, on the other hand, offers a serene environment ideal for professionals, scholars, and avid readers seeking uninterrupted study sessions.
Additionally, private reading rooms have been created to serve readers requiring specialized environments, promoting inclusivity and comfort for all users.
Governor Mutai urged parents to take advantage of the ongoing holiday period to register their children at the library, describing the facility as a symbol of the county’s commitment to fostering knowledge, innovation, and literacy.
“We also intend to complete the Kipkelion Library in Kipkelion West Sub-County and the Roret Library in Bureti Sub-County within this financial year,” he added.
The modernization of Kericho Library marks a significant step in the county’s ongoing efforts to strengthen educational infrastructure and promote lifelong learning among residents.
