The Department of Health in Kericho is optimistic that it will meet its vaccination target by the end of today, as the nationwide campaign against measles, rubella, and typhoid concludes.

County Immunization Officer Alfred Langat said the county has already achieved 80% of its target, describing the progress as “very encouraging.”

“We are optimistic that we will hit our target of 100 per cent by the end of the day,” Langat told journalists during a press briefing. “So far, we’ve not encountered any major challenges, and we are grateful for the cooperation we’ve received.”

Langat emphasized the safety and importance of the vaccines being administered, saying they have been approved for use and are essential in protecting children from preventable diseases.

“These vaccines are safe,” he said. “We are targeting children aged between 9 months and 5 years, and we’re working closely with the Department of Education to ensure we reach every eligible child.”

The vaccinations have been taking place in schools, health facilities, and various community centers across the county. Langat called on parents and guardians to make use of the remaining hours to have their children vaccinated.

“I want to assure residents that we have enough vaccines for everyone. No child should be left out,” he added.
