A form three student at Kereri Girls High School has sued multiple teachers from the institution for sexual assault.
The girl, through her mother, filed a law suit in a Nairobi court against the school’s principal Teresa Atieno Otieno and seven teachers stating that the school is known for male teachers’ sexual misconduct.
The girl stated that despite reporting the issue to the school management and to the DCI in March, no action was taken.
The girl claimed that one of the teachers started physically assaulting her after she was listed as a noise maker on diverse dates between June 7-14, 2020.
“I told him not to whip my palms but he proceeded to whip me severally while telling me that I am not special,” the court documents read in part.
The girl had swellings and bruises onher hands but the school did not provide medical attention.
This forced her mother to take her to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital where X-rays of her hands were done before a sling was put on her arm.
The girl stated that the same teacher went to her classroom the following day with hot water to massage her swollen arm and that when he discovered she was alone, he made sexual advances at her.
She also alleged that earlier this year, she had a violent argument with the same teacher.
The student also reported that another male teacher made sexual advances at her in the staffroom during remedial time last year.
“The teacher placed his hand on my thigh and caressed my inner thigh then he withdrew,” she said.
She added that another male teacher would walk along the pathway close to the open space where the girls bathed at 4am.
“He had developed the habit of aiming the beam of light from his torch towards the girls who were bathing in the open area next to the path as he walked from the teachers’ quarters,” the court papers read in part.
The student confessed that this teacher was once found by students kissing another student near the dorms which led to a commotion among the students.
The mother and daughter duo are now demanding for compensation for bodily and psychological harm and suffering.
