The Kenya Primary School Heads Association (KEPSHA)   has asked the government to provide more funds to facilitate the implementation of the Competency Based Curriculum.

KEPSHA chair Johnson Nzioka noted that with the bad economy and subsequent reforms by the Ministry of Education, there is need to inject more funds to support primary schools.

Speaking during the ongoing 18th KEPSHA conference in Mombasa, Nzioka argued that the new education reforms, amongst them domiciling junior secondary schools in primary schools, comes with a cost implication that requires additional resources.

“For many years, primary schools have been underfunded. At the end of this conference, we expect the government to announce an increased funding to us,” said Nzioka.

Nzioka said the association will give the ministry the necessary support in implementing the CBC.

“KEPSHA is ready to support the government in this endeavor because CBC reforms are significant for the education sector in this country,” Nzioka added.

Nzioka has expressed optimism that the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms(PWPER) will consider all recommendations made by the head teachers, among them training and employing more teachers.

The KEPSHA AGM is themed Managing the Transition of Competency Based Curriculum for Effective Nurturing of Each Learner’s Potential,

The conference, which is expected to run till Friday Dec 9, 2022, will officially be opened by President William Ruto today.
