Two hundred Kenyan students are set to benefit from the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme for the 2026/2027 academic year.

This follows a new communication from the Ministry of Education’s State Department for Higher Education.

In an official letter dated October 27, 2025, addressed to all Vice-Chancellors of universities and all Principals of university constituent colleges, Principal Secretary Dr Beatrice Muganda Inyangala announced that the Ministry had received confirmation from the Tempus Public Foundation (TPF) on the availability of the scholarships tenable in Hungary.

“The Ministry receives communications from the Tempus Public Foundation (TPF) on the availability of two hundred (200) Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarships tenable in Hungary for the academic year 2026/2027,” stated Dr Inyangala.

The scholarships, fully sponsored by the Hungarian Government, will cater for PhD, Master’s, One-Tier Master’s, and Bachelor’s degree programmes across various fields of study.

Kenya has been invited to nominate candidates who will undergo a competitive selection process coordinated by the Ministry of Education.

“The Government has been requested to nominate candidates for PhD, Master’s, One-Tier Master’s and Bachelor’s study,” read part of the circular signed by Dr Inyangala.

The online application portal — https://apply.stipendiumhungaricum.hu — will open on 15th November 2025 and close on 15th January 2026. Eligible students are encouraged to apply before the deadline to increase their chances of consideration.

“The study programmes and host institutions are accessible on the online application system, which will be open from 15th November 2025,” the letter adds.

According to the Principal Secretary, the circular aims to ensure that university administrators bring the opportunity to the attention of potential candidates within their institutions.

“The purpose of this letter is to request you to bring this to the attention of your staff and students who may be interested in applying for consideration,” Dr Inyangala emphasised.

She also noted that full details regarding the scholarship conditions and application procedures are available on the Ministry of Education’s website, www.education.go.ke.

The Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship is part of an ongoing educational cooperation between Kenya and Hungary aimed at enhancing access to international higher education opportunities.

Over the years, the programme has enabled Kenyan students to study in leading Hungarian universities in disciplines such as engineering, health sciences, agriculture, and social sciences.

Dr Inyangala reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding academic partnerships that align with Kenya’s Vision 2030 and the National Education Sector Strategic Plan. She commended the long-standing collaboration with Hungary, saying it has strengthened Kenya’s human capital development.

The Ministry has urged universities to circulate the information widely to ensure equitable representation of qualified applicants from across the country.
