Kenyan schools asserted their dominance on day four of the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games in Kakamega, sweeping most of their volleyball fixtures in commanding fashion.

In the girls’ competition, Kenya’s traditional powerhouses were in ruthless form. Kwanthanze defeated Uganda’s Amus college in straight sets (25-9, 25-14, 25-10), while Soweto eased past Katikamu, also from Uganda, 3-0 (25-8, 25-14, 25-18). Kesogon enjoyed a double victory, edging Bishop Sulumeti 3-1 (25-16, 23-25, 25-11, 25-16) before overpowering Rwanda’s St Aloys 3-0 (25-21, 25-12, 25-11).

Mwitoti Secondary School added to Kenya’s tally with a 3-0 win over Tororo of Uganda (25-18, 25-22, 25-11). Beyond the host nation, Tanzania’s Mwanhuzi defeated Bukedea of Uganda 3-0 (25-19, 26-24, 25-20), while Rwanda’s Kamonyi swept Kajunjumele of Tanzania (25-12, 25-21, 25-13).

In the boys’ matches, Kenyan teams also enjoyed a successful outing. Gogo overcame compatriots St Peters in straight sets (25-17, 26-24, 25-19), while Cheptil battled past Uganda’s Namgongo 3-1 (25-23, 19-25, 25-23, 25-18). Mwaluphamba joined the winners with a 3-0 win against Tanzania’s Tumbi (25-18, 25-23, 25-18).

The day’s most dramatic contest saw Malava boys outshine Rwanda’s PSV F in a five-set thriller (16-25, 25-21, 25-18, 27-25, 15-8). Burundi also impressed, with St Luc brushing aside Uganda’s Standard High 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-22), while St Phillipe recovered from a grueling opening set to defeat Tanzania’s Bugogwa 3-1 (31-33, 25-16, 25-20, 25-23).

With group stages nearing the halfway mark, Kenya’s teams remain firmly on course for the knockout rounds, though strong performances from Burundi and Rwanda suggest the title race is still wide open.
