Kenyan teachers of English to boost integration of language in Djibouti curricula

President William Ruto has said that Kenya will send teachers of English to Djibouti in support for English language training and its integration into Djibouti’s curricula.

In the agreement between the President and Djibouti counterpart Ismail Omar, Kenyan students in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions and medical training colleges will also benefit from the inclusion of French language trainees from Djibouti.

This, the President said, will help enhance the language proficiency of Kenyan graduates who seek employment abroad.

“We have further agreed to expedite the negotiation of a framework that enables the reciprocal recognition of certificates issued by our respective institutions of higher learning. I have informed the President that Kenya is extending an offer of 300 positions in our higher learning institutions to Djiboutian students at the same fees applicable to Kenyan students,” Ruto added.

The meeting between the two Heads of State comes after the second session of the Joint Commission for Cooperation (JCC) between Kenya and Djibouti.

Ruto is in Djibouti to participate in the 14th Ordinary Assembly of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Heads of State and Government.

The summit, which is taking place today June 12, 2023, will mark the first IGAD summit since 2019.
