Parents of students studying in Finland, the students and education stakeholders have raised concerns over possible misappropriation of funds by Uasin Gishu County as the students sponsored by the devolved unit are at risk of being denied rights to education. It is alleged that the county has failed to pay school fees for the students studying abroad.
This comes after TAMK University of Applied Science in Tampere announced that the institution is owed a whopping 200,000 Euros by Uasin Gishu County which was due by February 28, 2023.
Despite the institution sending a reminder of the same last November, the county is yet to give a response.
“We have to find someone to pay the invoice. Education is not free, we will continue looking for a solution in March, and we will keep our lines of communication open to Kenya,” TANK`s vice-president Ari Sivula said.
At the same time, 139 Kenyan students at Laurea University of Applied Sciences are also uncertain of continuing with the studies if the county does not comply to pay the amount owed to the school.
Saimma Vocational Collage (SAMPO) had the tussle before with the county government of Uasin Gishu over funds that saw the termination of their agreement with the county.
