Kenya, Uganda shares spoils in thrilling FEASSA basketball 3×3 battles in Kakamega

The Police Canteen courts in Kakamega were a cauldron of excitement on Wednesday as the 22nd Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) Games delivered a dramatic round of Basketball 3×3 clashes. The day was marked by fierce rivalries, narrow escapes, and commanding victories as teams from Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and Tanzania continued their hunt for regional glory.

In the boys’ category, Rwanda’s APE Rugunga set the early tone with a resounding 15–4 demolition of Uganda’s St. Cyprian, showing strength in both offense and defense. Kenya’s St. Joseph’s then treated the home crowd to a tense finish, edging Amus College (Uganda) 15–14 in one of the day’s closest encounters. Buddo SS of Uganda, a powerhouse in regional basketball, showcased their class with a hard-fought 21–18 win over Kenya’s Sigalame. The final boys’ game saw Kenya’s Pioneer dominate Nyakasura (Uganda), sealing a comfortable 17–7 victory.

The girls’ matches were no less captivating. Defending champions Buddo SS (Uganda) made their intentions clear, brushing aside Rwanda’s G.S. Gahini 21–12. Tigoi Girls (Kenya) staged one of the day’s biggest thrillers, edging Mvara (Uganda) 17–16 in a game that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

Asumbi Girls (Kenya) showed composure and teamwork to secure a 17–9 win against Seroma (Uganda). The day concluded with fireworks as Ng’iya Girls (Kenya) dismantled Juhudi SS of Tanzania in ruthless fashion, storming to a staggering 21–1 victory.

The results underscored Kenya and Uganda’s continued dominance of the regional basketball scene, with Rwanda showing moments of resilience while Tanzania endured a difficult outing. Fans packed into the Police Canteen arena, cheering every basket and fueling the players’ intensity in matches that showcased both skill and passion.

As the FEASSA Games progress, the stage is set for more high-stakes clashes across multiple disciplines. With basketball already producing memorable moments, Kakamega looks primed to remain the heartbeat of East African school sports this week.
