After the Melisa Foundation Netball Tournament finals, KNF Secretary General Milcent Busolo said netball had long been reserved for girls only. However, after the federation requested that boys be included, the MoE agreed.
She noted that Kenya was the only country where boys did not play netball, while boys actively participated in other countries.
She commended KNF leaders in the Trans-Nzoia branch for promoting the sport and Patricia Melisa, a grassroots netball leader and the KNUT women’s representative in Trans-Nzoia, for nurturing young netball talent.
During the finals, Andersen High School girls defeated Kimoson girls 21-5 in the under-19 Melisa Foundation Netball Tournament held at Kitale School on Sunday.
In the club finals, MOIC beat Trans-Nzoia Starlets 18-10. In the community teams’ final, Elgeyo Marakwet’s Community Rangers thrashed Waiteluk from Kiminini, Trans-Nzoia, 20-5 to clinch the netball title.

In the primary school category, Kisawai beat Kitale School 22-1. Kisawai drew with Sarura 15-15 in the earlier round and were crowned champions.
In the Junior Secondary School (JSS) boys’ finals, Kisawai triumphed over Sarura 15-6 to become the inaugural boys’ champions.
Over 37 teams participated, including those from primary and secondary schools, clubs, and community teams. Winners received trophies and Ksh 10,000.

The Melisa Foundation, led by Patricia Melisa, the KNUT women’s representative for Trans-Nzoia, sponsored the tournament.
