Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI) has organized a series of trainings targeting BOMs of secondary schools to acquaint themselves with the Competency Based Curriculum ahead of the transition of pupils to junior secondary schools in 2023.

KEMI in partnership with Kenya Schools Heads Association have been capacity building the inaugurated members of the BOMs to enrich them with school guidelines, managerial, legal skills and strategies to undertake during the enrolment of the CBC program in 2023.

Dr. Maurice Odundo, KEMI Director.

Grace Gatundu, from KEMI, said their aim is to inform the BOM about how they’ll be instrumental during the enrollment of CBC program next year.

Gatundu was speaking during the closure of the 3 days’ workshop that was held across all the six sub- Counties in Siaya County.

Gatundu stated that the officers have been acquainted with laws, policies, financial management, procurement and learner/ child friendly policies so as to be in touch with what is expected from them.

“In 2023, we will be rolling out the CBC for junior secondary therefore we must put in place necessary strategies and initiatives to see the successful roll out. We expect the BOMs to be ready to take care of the learners as Education managers in the institutions,” said Gatundu.

Gatundu was accompanied by Rarieda sub county KESSHA chairman James Okoyo and Rarieda sub-County Education Director Elijah Odie who hailed KEMI for training the recently inaugurated BOMs.

“We are very grateful to KEMI for organizing the induction workshop for the BoM,” said Okoyo adding that the BOMs will be macro managing the institutions.

He added that the training will be key to ensuring smooth transition  of learners to other grades.

He appealed to the Ministry of Education to employ more teachers to attend to the junior secondary students.

Education CS George Magoha had indicated that they have trained over 200,000 teachers in CBC implementation who will help in the progressive roll out.
