KECOTSA President speaks of his leadership a year after assuming office

Over a year after he was elected as student President for the Kericho County Tertiary and University Students Association (KECOTSA) Evans Kipkorir Serem spoke to Education News on his tenure.

Serem said that he has always been passionate about student Leadership. This Internal ignition started way back in primary school, Tarnos School, when he was elected to serve in various young student leadership capacities.

Later in his high school (Kericho high school) Serem felt an intuition of the same and also chaperoned by the fact that many leaders in our country had been brought up through his almer mater.

“I then proceeded for my university studies at Kabarak and as a young boy just fresh from high school I challenged myself to run also for an elective post which I did and this resonated well with the comrade fraternity which led them to elect me unanimously in three different positions in the first year at the institution,” he said.

He was also unanimously elected on March17 2023 to be the chairperson for KECOTSA a position he holds up to date, courtesy of the comrades from Kericho County spread across Kenyan universities and colleges.

“What has actually catapulted me to such heights is the considerable humility i possess as I have a strong belief that this is a virtue second to none. In addition to this, I have developed across this student leadership pyramid, a skill of listening more to my masters (electorates) and speaking less,” he added.

Serem further said his strive and passion to work for the people even under tough and serious conditions, as well as perseverance has been his other motives to rise through the ranks in leadership.

He urged varsity and college students from the county to join KECOTSA so that they get the voice to command for more in matters related to the education.
