Examiners who marked the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations have been assured of their payments before the end of this financial year on June 30, 2023.
According to Basic Education Principal Secretary Dr. Belio Kipsang, the state has set the ball rolling to ensure that teachers who finished the work in January get what they are owed.
“There is engagement within the government. Shortly before the end of this financial year, we shall have paid every teacher who participated in marking the examination,” Belio said.
Dr. Kipsang spoke yesterday at St. George`s Secondary School in Kieni, Nyeri County during the Kieni Constituency Education Day.
At the same time, he further assured contractors who built Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) classrooms that they will receive their payments.
“I also give my word that we are working with our colleagues in the National Treasury so that resources are made available,” he said.
More than Ksh7.8 billion is owed to contractors who built 10,000 CBC classrooms.
Also in the event was Kieni Member of Parliament Njoroge Wainaina who stressed on the rising cases of alcohol abuse by some students and teachers in the constituency, a thing he said has derailed education performance.
