The Ministry of Education has officially released the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination results, with data showing an improvement in overall performance compared to last year.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba said a total of 270,715 candidates attained grade C+ and above, qualifying for direct university entry, while 1,932 candidates scored grade A, an increase from 1,693 candidates in 2024.
A total of 993,226 candidates sat the examinations, making the 2025 cohort the largest in the history of the KCSE. Of these, 501,214 were girls, accounting for 50 per cent of the candidature, while 492,019 were boys.
Further performance indicators showed that 507,131 candidates attained grade C- and above, up from 476,889 in 2024, while 634,082 candidates scored grade D+ and above, compared to 605,774 last year.

National schools produced the highest number of grade A candidates at 1,526, followed by extra-county schools (197) and private schools (185).
The ministry also noted strong performance among lower-tier institutions, with Sub-county schools producing 72,699 candidates with grade C+ and above, compared to 36,900 from county schools. Public day secondary schools recorded improved outcomes, with over 72,000 candidates attaining grade C+ and above.
CS Ogamba noted that the 2025 examination marks the third-last KCSE cohort as the country transitions to the Competency-Based Education (CBE) system.
The examinations were administered countrywide between October 21 and November 14, 2025, with the results officially released at AIC Chebisaas Boys High School.
