KCB Foundation, Muhoroni launch Ksh 10million programme to sponsor RIAT technical students

Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Foundation, in partnership with Muhoroni constituency NG-CDF, has launched a Ksh10 million programme to sponsor students pursuing technical courses at Ramogi Institute of Advanced Technology (RIAT).

Through the collaboration, Muhoroni Member of Parliament (MP) James Koyoo announced that the KCB Foundation has contributed Ksh5 million and Muhoroni NG-CDF has invested a similar amount to enable selected local youth pursue technical education starting in the September intake.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony of Muhoroni Technical and Vocational College (TVC) at Ngeny Primary School grounds in Kisumu County, Koyoo emphasized the need to equip young people with practical, market-driven skills that enhance employability.

“I have joined a partnership with the Kenya Commercial Bank Foundation to sponsor students at a cost of Ksh10 million which is jointly funded by NG-CDF and KCB Foundation, with each contributing ksh5 million to enable our students to go to RIAT and train,” said the legislator.

He added that the initiative would serve as a temporary measure to train local students at RIAT while construction of the Muhoroni TVC is underway.

The event was also attended by Principal of RIAT Gilbert Mwavali, RIAT Deputy Principal Administration Lynette Odhiambo, education officials, government officials and elected leaders.

The MP at the same time announced that the national government has allocated Ksh11 million to kick-start the construction of Muhoroni Technical and Vocational College (TVC) in Kisumu County.

He reaffirmed his commitment to empowering young people with technical skills to help them achieve their goals, as he presided over the groundbreaking ceremony of the TVC at Ngeny Primary School grounds.

He further stated that the development will go a long way in helping youths to access technical skills near their locality.

Koyoo revealed that the Muhoroni NG-CDF Committee has also enhanced the allocation by contributing another Ksh10 million for the cause, further boosting the planned construction of the new vocational institution.

The initial construction phase will include a twin workshop hall, classrooms and a two-storey building office block.

“When it takes off, we will have a serious institution that will absorb majority of our students who are not able to join public universities, either through cut-off points or because they are willing to do technical subjects,” he stated.

The legislature hinted at plans to have the facility renamed Aora Ndinya TVC in honour of the late Sylvanus Aora Ndinya, a respected educationist from Sidho East area, who once served as the Principal of the Kisumu Technical High School.

Koyoo emphasized that the government is working to ensure every constituency has a TVC institution, making it necessary to establish and equip the college in Muhoroni.

The contractor assured that the project will be ready within 9 months to open gates for the first student enrollment, as the Ministry of Education nominates RIAT as the mentoring institution.

Mwavali speaking at the event, assured that they will closely monitor the project to ensure that the government gets value for money.

“Once completed, we shall also midwife the process of appointing its first Board of Governors and ensure that the first enrollment of students takes place,” Mwavali stated.
