KATTI South Rift chair urges TVET institutions, trainees to license innovative skills

Kenya Association of Technical Training Institutions, (KATTI) South Rift Regional Chairman Sammy Chemoiwa have urged all TVT institutions and trainees to license their innovations in order to have legal rights to own and benefit from them.

Speaking in Kericho Township TVC during KATTI South Rift Regional Fair where students showcased their talents, skills and innovations, Chemoiwa said that is important to legally own once creative, innovative work to fully benefit and curb plagiarism.

“We strongly encourage our TVET Institutions and students to patent their innovations, skills and talents for them to have legal right to owner them; that will prevent any person or any organisation from commercializing them without the permission from the legal owner,” said Chemoiwa.

Chemoiwa said that some students and TVET institutions innovate good ideas but they ended up in the hands of organisation and people who did not contribute thus leaving the real innovator suffering.

“As we encourage our TVET Institutions and students to innovative new ideas we should put up legal structure to license those ideas so that the innovator can eat the fruit of their sweat,” said Chemoiwa.

Chemoiwa who is also the Chief Principal of the Rift Valley National Polyechnic thank all TVET Institutions in South Rift Region which attended the event and showcase their exhibit.

The event was attended by KATTI Principals, Deputy Principals, Registrar, Dean of Students, Trainees and students from South Rift Region.

The KATTI Principals who were given opportunity to address the event encourage TVET Institutions to continue to be  centers of innovation and come up with new skills, idea to showcase their talented skills gained at their TVET Institutions.

Elsewhere the Director of TVET in South Rift Region Peter Cheruiyot encouraged the parents, public and various organisation to attend TVET Fair in order to see innovative ideas from TVET  institutions.

Cheruiyot said by attending TVET Fair, parents can get an opportunity to see innovative ideas from TVET Institutions and motivate students and TVET institutions.

“Members of public should go around and check the exhibition, give students motivation and encouragement to uplift their creativity,” said Cheruiyot.
