The Director of Greening TVET and Climate Change in the Ministry of Education Ann Kamonjo have urged Kenya Association of Technical Training Institutions (KATTI) Principal to spearhead the campaign of making TVET Green in their institutions.
Speaking in Burch Resort during a workshop attended by over 50 KATTI Principals from all over the country, the Director said that the State Department of TVET have develop a national strategies of greening of TVET and a roadmap that will create a workforce to work in a greening economy, and the principals are at the core of its success.
She added that the strategies include Green Governance, Green Skill development, Green Research, Green Job Creation, Green Labour market systems and Green finance.
The Director added that the KATTI Principals should strengthen institutional framework, policies and coordination for delivering green skills and jobs, aligning with the Competency-Based curriculum which demands to build a skill green workforce.
Kamonjo added that when fully implemented, the growth of green enterprises and industries will provide quality, sustainable, employment opportunities to trainees in the TVET Sector.
“The Process of Greening TVET is in line with the Second Africa Climate Summit (ACS2),held in Adiss Ababa in Ethiopia from 8th to 10th September 2025,adopted far-reaching commitments to accelerate Africa’s Climate action.” Kamonjo said

Central to these commitments are the mobilisation of the climate finance, the creation of million of green jobs, and the integration of green skills within TVET Systems and ensuring that TVET institutions remain in line with these outcomes.
Kamonjo therefore called on the principals to enable the TVET institutions to translate Second Africa Climate Summit(ACS2) Priorities into institutional actions plans and roadmap for green skills development.
The Greening TVET will deepen understanding of ACS2 outcomes and their implications for TVET, to analyse green job and skills opportunities for Kenyan youths, to co-design institutional green skills and works force roadmap aligned to national, continental and global frame works, to commit measurable actions, including the integration of green skills in CBET curricula in partnership with industry.
The Director said that 50 per cent of TVET Institutions which will implement Greening TVET will get global recognition by getting awards such as silver, gold, platinum and green flag.
She urged the principals to ensure that their institutions have Green Champions, green TVET Committees and other related activities and structures which spearhead greening TVET.
