KATTI National championship kicks off at Kenya Coast Poly in Mombasa

The 2025 Kenya Association of Technical Training Institutions (KATTI) National Championships began today at the Kenya Coast National Polytechnic in Mombasa.

The highly anticipated event has brought together technical and vocational colleges from across the country to compete in various sporting disciplines, with volleyball and handball taking center stage.

The opening day saw teams arrive from all regions, setting the stage for a week of thrilling competition and sportsmanship. The championships aim to promote talent development, teamwork, and unity among students from Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions nationwide.

In the men’s volleyball category, teams have been grouped into four pools. Pool A features Emining TTI, Kinango TVC, Chuka TVC, Tseikuru NP, and Maasai NP. Pool B includes Kaiboi NP, Kisiwa NP, Taita Taveta NP, Mukurweini TTI, and Mawego NP. Pool C consists of RVNP, Baringo NP, Sigalagala NP, and Katine TTI, while Pool D brings together K.C.I.T.I, Nyeri NP, Samburu TVC, and Sikri TTI.

The women’s volleyball competition has also attracted strong participation from institutions across the country. Among the teams competing are Nairobi NP, Samburu TVC, Dr. Wako Murende TVC, Sikri TTI, Keroka TTI, Nyeri NP, Thika TTI, Katine TTI, Chuka TVC, Michuki NP, RVTTI, Kenya Coast NP, Kaiboi NP, Mwale TVC, Eldoret NP, Kinango TVC, and Kisiwa NP.

In handball, the women’s category is divided into two pools. Pool A includes Bondo TTI, Kabete TTI, Katine TTI, and Michuki NP, while Pool B features Mwale TVC, Eldoret NP, Kinango TVC, and Kisiwa NP. The men’s handball competition is divided into four pools. Pool A has Rarieda TVC, Kenya Coast NP, Matili TTI, Jeremiah Nyaga NP, and Aldai TTI. Pool B consists of Murang’a TTI, Masinga TVC, Meru NP, Kitale NP, and Taita Taveta NP. Pool C includes Kiambu NP, Mawego NP, and Belgut TTI, while Pool D features Matili TTI, RVNP, Kenya Coast NP, and Eldoret NP.

The Kenya Coast National Polytechnic is hosting the tournament for the first time, and preparations have been in full swing to ensure a successful event. The championship is expected to provide a platform for identifying and nurturing future sporting talent within TVET institutions while strengthening inter-college collaboration and friendship.

The competitions will run throughout the week, with the finals scheduled for the weekend. Winners in each category will be crowned national champions, marking the culmination of what promises to be an exciting and competitive sporting event.
