KATTI decries delayed disbursement of capitation funds

The Principal of Township TVC Mr. Shadrack Tonui.

The Secretary General of the Kenya Association of Technical Training Institutes (KATTI), Shadrack Tonui, has called for a dialogue to address the persistent delay in the disbursement of Capitation funds.

He emphasized that these delays were significantly impacting service delivery in technical colleges and posed a threat to the quality of education provided.

“We, as representatives of Technical Vocational Colleges (TVCs) Principals across the country, call for an immediate round of consultations to address the ongoing delays in Capitation disbursement,” Tonui emphasized.

He also extended his gratitude to Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot for his advocacy of TVET institutions in the county, aligning with President William Ruto’s agenda for technical colleges.

Additionally, Tonui acknowledged the role of Bureti TTI in mentoring new TVETs, including Total TVC, Township TVC, and Belgut Technical, and encouraged the graduates to utilize their skills for job creation and to contribute to the country’s economy, especially within the framework of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformative Agenda (BETA).

Tonui also urged the local community to support the expansion and development of the polytechnic, considering the expected increase in student population.

He commended the Bureti TTI Senior Principal Sammy Cheruiyot’s leadership as the head of the upgraded facility, praising his vision for the institution.

The Principal applauded the graduates and their parents for their dedication to their studies, emphasizing the curriculum’s focus on equipping students with both theoretical and practical skills to thrive in today’s dynamic economy.

He mentioned the implementation of Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) courses, which enhances practical skills applicable in the real world.

While expressing gratitude for government and African Development Bank (AfDB) support, Senior Principal Cheruiyot reiterated the challenge of diminishing Capitation funds, emphasizing the need for a sustainable funding solution through constructive dialogue to preserve the quality of education for current and future generations.

Leaders across the region welcomed the government’s decision to upgrade Bureti Technical and Training Institute to a National Polytechnic.
