Kathonzweni Sub-County Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) in Makueni County have performed well at the Kenya Science and Engineering Fair (KSEF), proceeding with six items to the regionals, with Kathonzweni AIC JSS among the schools posting impressive results.

Speaking to Education News, John Kimanthi, the KSEF Kathonzweni Sub-County JSS Secretary, congratulated the schools and learners for posting impressive results and placing the sub-county in position one.

He urged teachers to encourage more JSS learners to participate in science fairs, adding that science opens learners’ minds through intensive research, placing them at the centre as problem solvers.

He added that he will be leading the sub-county to the regionals, which will be held at Matuu Memorial Girls’ High School from March 17 to 21.

“We have some of the best learners. Being the first time JSS participated in the competitions, I will be taking a total of nine projects from the sub-county,” Kimanthi said.

However, he called for full support for the projects in the future, adding that providing students with such platforms is one of the best opportunities an institution can offer.

Kathonzweni Sub-County emerged the best sub-county in the just concluded County Kenya Science and Engineering Fair, held at Kalulini Comprehensive School, placing first among the 10 sub-counties.
