School team in Busia appeals for financial support ahead of Regionals

Katakwa Secondary Girls’ soccer team in Teso North Sub County, Busia County may miss out from participating in the regional Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association Games for lack of funds.

They have appealed to the county government of Busia, the political wing and well-wishers to come to their aid to enable them participate effectively in the regional meet in Kakamega from next week.

Making its maiden participation in the County Term 2 games Katakwa caused an upset when they qualified for the finals before losing to St Joseph’s Chakol girls.

The spirited girls who played throughout the tournament bare footed and on borrowed uniforms however qualified to represent the county at the regional level alongside Chakol.

“We need at least Ksh90,000 to purchase 20 pairs of boots and another Ksh50,000 to purchase two pairs of uniform and other important items, ” The Assistant coach and Games Master Daniel Kituyi Were said

The team had a success story during the three-day games with stopper Brenda Amase voted the best player of the tournament and Mary Achom emerging the top scorer with four goals to her credit.

“That notwithstanding, the two players who are in form four have attracted the attention of scouts who have approached them with a view of joining the national team Harambee Starlets,” he said.

“With our strategy being training, training, training, we are ready to face the likes of Archbishop Njenga, Butere, and our local Chakol in our quest for the regional glory.” He added

Kituyi attributed their success story to unity, regular training, and unwavering support from school Principal Manasseh Kagasi.

“Our future plan is to invest more in the team by offering them adequate training and equipment. Being a small school, we shall endeavor to up our game.” he said.
