Graduands have been urged to uphold key virtues they have been taught for the sake of their future growth and development.

Karumo Technical Training Institute Principal Ms Florah Kanyua said this was the only way they will be able to earn an honest and decent livelihood.

Speaking during the institution’s inaugural graduation ceremony where 889 trainees graduated in various fields, Ms Kanyua said the virtues will inevitably determine the kind of person they become in the future.

“As you transition to the job market, remember the key virtues that you have been taught at Karumo of kindness, honesty, integrity, transparency, accountability among others. These are very important for your growth and development,” said Ms Kanyua.

She also urged them to learn to give back to society as a way of appreciating the support they have been accorded by various people during their studies.

“Remember to give back to society. The greatest world’s personalities are those that have had positive contributions in the communities they live in,” she said.

She called on the graduands to suitably package and present themselves in order to be accommodated in the labour and business community not only in Kenya but the world over.

“During your studies at Karumo, you were equipped with academic, career and life skills and knowledge to earn you an honest and decent livelihood. Utilize this appropriately for yourselves, your families and the society,” said the Principal.

The institute which has a population of more than 5,000 trainees is in the process of being ISO:27000-2013 certified, a move that Ms Kanyua said will improve their processes and enhance customer satisfaction hence sustainable development.

Board Chairman Major Retired Andrew Nkiiri called on the graduands to embrace the traits of resilience and perseverance as they go out to the world.

“Today we are releasing you to a very tough world that will require you to continually re-engineer yourself in order to survive,” said Mr Nkiiri.
