Kanga school to host first national STEM Olympiad

Kanga High School is set to host its first-ever National Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Olympiad ahead of the rollout of Competency-Based Education (CBE) in Senior Secondary schools by the Ministry of Education beginning next year.

About 20 schools will converge in the school on September 7, 2025 with school Principal  Reuben Kodiango, stating that the Olympiad aims to nurture a positive attitude among learners and encourage them to pursue careers through STEM.

“We are not only focused on excelling academically but also on nurturing young, innovative minds. Many of our students are using technology and the Internet of Things (IoT) to develop solutions to 21st-century challenges,” said Kodiango.

Some of the students’ innovations include an automated chair, a robotic arm, smart vigilance systems, and Mobidoc equipment, among other projects that have practical applications across different economic sectors.

A senior Biology teacher at the school revealed that students are also exploring groundbreaking ideas such as the creation of artificial human blood. “If successful, this project could help address chronic blood shortages in hospitals, potentially saving countless lives during emergencies and surgeries,” he said.
