Kanga School shines in the first National Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Olympiad. In an event held yesterday at the school and graced by a total of seven schools drawn countrywide Kanga High School emerged as position one with an average marks of 62.6. It was followed by Kabianga with 53.45, Mbita High with 45.83 as Kisii School comes forth with 45.5 marks.
The impressive results were celebrated by the school’s chief Principal Reuben Kodiango who said that the motive behind the event is to create a positive mentality in students towards embracing the STEM subjects which are a foundation of most solutions to this century’s problems.
“I want to thank the Interior Permanent Secretary, Dr. Raymond Omollo for his immense support towards affecting the dream of this event.” Said Kodiango, adding that the PS has played a major role in the growth and development of the institution through his support.

While speaking during the close of the exercise, Kodiango also expressed his appreciation to the Olympiad Secretariat for allowing Kanga School to host the first-ever National STEM Olympiad.
He also noted that the event is a great and important one since it was not only an occasion where students took part in an examination competition in various science subjects but the top performers were also appreciated and motivated through various awards ranging from certificates, trophies and cash.
He encouraged both learners and teachers to take the tasks ahead of them seriously to continue excelling in subjects.
Areas of competition included: Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Biology, where students from Kanga, Kabianga, Mbita, Kisii, Kisumu, Thur Dibuoro and St. Peter’s Nyakemincha schools took part in the stiff competition.
