The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has launched the taxpayer education in schools within the western region at Kanga High School in Migori County today.

The school is to be referred to as a Center of Excellence on matters of tax payment and will work together with the KRA officials to education other learning institutions on tax remittance. The school will bear the responsibility of ensuring learners from other institutions are enlightened and understand the importance of paying tax even when they attain the age of 18 and are either self-employed or employed in other institutions.

Kanga School Chief Principal Mr. Reuben Kodiango applauded the tax club led by Mr. James Kabaraka for guiding the students on the noble course to help them become good citizens in future by being responsible through remittance of tax.

“I believe that guided by the school motto of excellence and faithful service we shall, to our best,  set good standards for other schools and to guide the students on the right path in matters related to payment of taxes,” Said Kodiango.

Kabaraka who is the Tax Club Patron and also the schools’ Deputy Principal noted that it was a great honor for the institution to be identified as a center of excellence in tax payment and to spearhead the mentorship of other schools within the region.

According to KRA Regional Coordinator Ms. Pamela Ahago the school will aid in bridging the gap between the authority and citizens for accountability to ease the process of tax collection.

“We will ensure program quality and we will monitor and come up with a curriculum where the club members would participate to enlighten others on taxpayer responsibility through taxpayer education. This will be through poems, music and other available means,” said Ahago.
