Kakamega County Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda has pledged to fight for justice for a 12‑year‑old primary school learner who was defiled in Marama West Ward, Butere Sub‑County. Speaking during International Women’s Day celebrations in Butere, Muhanda expressed anger over the incident and conveyed her sympathy to the young girl, promising to personally follow up until justice is served.
The legislator condemned the unlawful act and urged mothers and community members to take a strong stand in ensuring the suspect is arrested and prosecuted. “As we celebrate International Women’s Day under the theme Rights and Justice for All Women and Girls, we remember the young girl in prayers,” she said, stressing that the fight against sexual violence must be relentless.

Muhanda also used the occasion to highlight ongoing efforts to safeguard girls in schools. She announced that all primary school girls across Kakamega’s 12 sub‑counties have received sanitary towels, a move she said would help curb defilement cases and teenage pregnancies. “Even teachers are here and they witnessed the mega launch of sanitary towels distribution,” she remarked, underscoring the importance of empowering girls to stay in school.
In addition to the sanitary initiative, Muhanda handed over Sh50,000 to support fencing at Buchenya Primary School. She pledged unwavering support for school projects, noting that secure learning environments are vital in keeping off criminals and protecting learners.
The event brought together teachers from Buchenya Primary and Senior School, who echoed the call for fencing both institutions to enhance safety. They emphasized that safeguarding school grounds is a critical step in protecting children from external threats and ensuring education continues without disruption.
