Kakamega County Governor Fernandes Barasa has promised to increase the allocation of bursary funds for students in the county polytechnics from Ksh2 million to Ksh5 million per ward.
Speaking during Madaraka Day celebrations in Kakamega, he added that his administration is also committed towards significant improvement of infrastructure in the said institutions.
Barasa thus urged parents and students to take advantage of the initiative and enroll in large numbers so they continue with their education.
The governor lamented that the controversial Finance Bill 2023 contains elements which will make life more difficult to citizens.
“When we allow reason to prevail, when a sense of self determination arises from our conscience other than political party loyalty, a favourable outcome has always been reached and our country has always emerged better.” Barasa said.
He thus urged Members of Parliament (MPs) to reject the Bill for the sake of Kenyans who are suffering under the weight of high cost of living.
Recently, Barasa launched the county integrated development plan and appealed to residents to support the county government as it is facing a lot of challenges due to the delayed flow of finances from the National Treasury.
“The county looks forward to a situation where disbursement of funds will done by 15th of any given month, which will reduce the unnecessary strains experienced by county governments,” he said.
He said that the timely disbursement of funds will enable county governments to deliver on their promises to its people.
