Kakamega teen mother who was given second chance excels in 2024 KCSE exam

Jubilation filled the air at Eshishebu in Marama South as residents celebrated academic success of Dorcas Itinoti, who excelled in the recently released KCSE results.

Itinoti, scored a B- minus in the KCSE examinations despite dropping out of school for months.

She is the beneficiary of “A helping hand to teen mothers”, an initiative led by Kakamega First Lady, Professor Janet Kasilly Barasa.

Previously, a school dropout due to teen pregnancy, the journey of Itinoti back to education was made possible through the First Lady’s efforts to reintegrate her into school.

She beats the odds to gain automatic entry to university despite the challenges of being a teen mother.

Expressing her gratitude, the First Lady said, “Dorcas has shown that challenges should not derail progress in life. I encourage other girls in the programme to work hard to achieve their goals.”

Dorcas now joins part of a group involving 188 teen mothers who share their success stories to educate and inspire others.
