Teachers in Kakamega County have vowed to stage peaceful demonstrations on Monday, November 10, to protest the mysterious disappearance of Simon Isiaho Shange , the Principal of Munyuki Mixed Secondary School, who went missing after being involved in a road accident on Monday.
According to reports, the principal was on his way to collect KCSE examination papers when the accident occurred along Eldoret-Malaba highway.
The confusion and fear had set in after a thorough search revealed that Shange could not be traced in any hospital within Kakamega or the surrounding counties.
“We have checked all major hospitals in Kakamega, Webuye, and Bungoma but there is no record of his admission,” said one teacher involved in the search.
He added: “It’s like he disappeared after the accident. We are deeply disturbed and need answers.”
The unexplained disappearance has sparked outrage among teachers and residents alike. The teaching community has accused authorities of failing to act swiftly and vowed to take to the streets if comprehensive efforts to trace the missing principal are not launched immediately.
“If by Monday the government and security agencies have not given us a clear report, we will demonstrate until we get answers,” said a teacher from Kakamega.
“We cannot sit back when one of our own goes missing under such unclear circumstances.”

Colleagues describe Shange as a hardworking and respected school head who has served the education sector with dedication.
His sudden disappearance, they say, has sent shockwaves through the teaching fraternity during a period already marked by tension and high responsibility due to the ongoing national examinations.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC), education officials, and local police have reportedly begun investigations into the matter, though no formal statement has been issued on his status or the details surrounding the accident. Authorities are said to be following leads from eyewitnesses who helped rush him from the scene.
Meanwhile, the search for the missing educator continues, with teachers, family members, and local residents combing hospitals and nearby villages in the hope of finding him.
The community members have also taken to social media to appeal for help, sharing photos and contact numbers for anyone who might have information on his whereabouts.
“He is a father, a teacher, and a mentor to many. We just want him found — dead or alive — so that his family can have peace,” said one emotional colleague.
Teachers’ unions have also urged the Ministry of Education to tighten safety protocols during the examination period, noting that many school heads and officers travel early in the morning and late into the night to collect or deliver examination papers under pressure.
