Kakamega School has been handed the Western Region slot in rugby at the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) National Games in Kisumu, following the disqualification of Bungoma High School in a sweeping eligibility audit.
Officials confirmed on Sunday that Kakamega School had received formal communication clearing its participation after an ICT‑driven verification exercise flagged irregularities across several teams. The audit, signed by the ICT office of the KSSSA Secretary General, identified 22 ineligible players from Bungoma High School, the highest number recorded leading to the team’s removal from the national competition.
School sources indicated that the team is expected to travel to Kisumu immediately to take up its place at the national competition.

The development highlights increased scrutiny on player eligibility in school sports, with digital audits emerging as a key tool in enforcing compliance ahead of major tournaments.
Meanwhile, the decision has triggered disquiet in Bungoma, with unconfirmed reports indicating that Bungoma High School is preparing to file an official protest challenging the outcome of the audit.

The KSSSA National Games, set to kick off in Kisumu, are now expected to proceed with Kakamega School as the Western Region’s rugby representatives, in a late twist that has stirred both anticipation and controversy.
Efforts to reach Kakamega School Chief Principal, Elphas Aliva, for comment were unsuccessful by the time of publication. However, the school’s official Facebook page confirmed receipt of the communication and expressed readiness to represent the region.
